The School of Natural Resources (SNR) at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln invites applications for a Senior GIS Specialist.

 

The Senior GIS Specialist will hold an appointment within the SNR Center for Advanced Land Management Information Technologies (CALMIT) - http://www.calmit.unl.edu/

The Senior GIS Specialist will work as an integral part of an interagency team to provide technical leadership for building the Nebraska Geospatial Data Sharing and Web Services Network; develop and implement web applications based on ArcGIS Server (e.g., utilizing ArcGIS Server to develop online web mapping applications and map services); manage and maintain ArcSDE and SQL servers and software; identify and establish standards and protocols to drive technical requirements for implementation; assist Nebraska agencies in developing and maintaining statewide geospatial data and databases; provide outreach to the statewide GIS community for cooperative data and GIS development projects; provide training and technical support on web-based applications development in a web portal environment; represent CALMIT, SNR, and the University of Nebraska at professional meetings; deliver papers, presentations, documentation, and reports in collaboration with collaborators; develop proposals for external funding.

 

Required:  Applicants must have a Masters or PhD degree in a field providing formal technical training in GIS, including experience working with the ArcGIS family of software (e.g., ArcGIS Server, ArcIMS, ArcSDE).  Applicants must have expertise with FGDC and ISO metadata standards, web portal technology and web applications development and web services development as relevant to GIS, web scripting and markup languages (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript), experience with one or more RDBMS packages (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL). The position requires excellent ability to communicate technical information both orally and in writing.  Current legal ability to work in the United States and current residency in the United States is required.

Preferred:  PhD degree and one or more years of experience working in a position directly related to the  expertise and duties outlined above; expertise with software such as Apache Web Server, Tomcat, Red Hat Linux, ArcXML, ArcSDE; expertise with ArcObjects programming, geodatabase design and Object Oriented language (Java, .NET, C++, Visual Basic); knowledge of Open GIS Consortium; competence in SQL scripting; experience designing, programming, and deploying Client and Web applications; experience providing technical support on GIS software development; demonstrated ability to work as part of a team to develop and achieve shared project goals; familiarity with Nebraska and Nebraska agencies.

 

Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position is funded for 24 months.  Continuation beyond that period will be dependent on availability of grant funds.
