Introduction to Geographic Information Systems
(GIS)
A Web Site for GEOG/NRES 412/812
University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) facilitate storage, management, analysis and presentation of geospatial data. Such data include, for example, digital representations of elevation, vegetation, soils, land use, population, wildlife and other phenomena located on or near the earth's surface. This web site has been developed to support GEOG/NRES 412/812, a course covering the fundamentals of GIS and geospatial data analysis offered at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The site provides information on the course structure and requirements, offers a selective guide to information on basic concepts and data sources, and gives direction to those who may wish to independently learn more about geographic information systems.
