Abstract:
This raster data layer provides an estimate and comparison of 1997 and 2001 irrigated areas for the COHYST Study area within the Nebraska Boundary.
Purpose:
Identifying irrigated areas within the Central Platte River Basin provides important information necessary to supplement the hydrologic modeling in the study area. Irrigation data serve a variety of purposes, from water resources planning to land use planning. This data could also be used for watershed analysis and other natural resource management activities.

Agricultural areas classified as irrigated were queried and subset from the 1997 and 2001 COHYST land cover classifications. Irrigated areas from 1997 were re coded and given a value of 5 and areas found to be irrigated in 2001 were re coded and given a value of 10. These two separate re coded raster files were added together in Arc GRID module. The resulting raster grid had three classes 5, 10, and 15. Cells with a value of 5 indicated areas that were found to be irrigated in 1997 and not in 2001. Cells with a value of 10 were those areas identified as being irrigated in 2001 and not in 1997. Cells with a value of 15 were those areas found to be irrigated both in 1997 and 2001. The final raster layer was clipped to the COHYST Study area within the Nebraska boundary. All irrigated areas and comparisons are provided as estimates.
